This Sunday we begin an 8 week sermon series on The Lord’s Prayer. This prayer can be found twice in the New Testament – Matthew 6: 9-13 and Luke 11: 2-4. Luther divided this prayer into an introduction, 7 petitions, and a conclusion. This Sunday we will focus on the introduction and first petition.
Introduction – “Our Father who art in Heaven” 3 questions to ponder – Why the word “our”? What does it mean that God is “father”? Where is heaven?
First Petition – “Hallowed be thy name” God’s name is holy. What are some of the ways we have made it less than holy?
You have a homework assignment each during the next 8 weeks. I’m asking you to pray The Lord’s Prayer at least once a day for the next 8 weeks. Pray it by yourself. Better yet, pray it with somebody else. And as you pray the words, please listen to the words that you are praying. What do they mean for you and your life?
