Carrying Crosses

Post by Pastor Dave  Mark 8:27-38

The definitive symbol for the Christian faith is not a manger…not a rainbow…not even an empty tomb.

It’s a cross.

A what?

A cross!

On it Jesus Christ died…followed God’s will…gave His life.

In Mark, Jesus is so committed to that cross that He tells His followers 3 times He must suffer and be crucified.

If it is the definitive symbol of the Christian faith, what does it tell us?

That God’s love for us knows no bounds.

That God will do anything to be in relationship with us.

That whatever has broken the relationship with us and God has been wiped clean by the blood of the lamb

Remember that in the Old Testament God saved His people in Egypt when the blood of a lamb was put on the door of their houses and the angel of death passed over their homes?  Well, in the New Testament God saves His people from sin, death, and the devil by the blood of another Lamb, shed on a cross for the sins of the world!!

That’s how much God loves you and me and every single person in the world.

How do we respond to that kind of love?

By taking up that same cross and loving God’s people the way God does!

“WHOEVER WOULD COME AFTER ME,  LET THEM DENY THEMSELVES, AND TAKE

UP THEIR CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME.”  (Mark 8: 34)

Jesus carried His cross for us.

When we carry it for others we become the children God intended us to be.

So…what cross is it that God is calling you to carry?
