Post by Pastor Dave John 3:1-17
When somebody mentions the word “God” – what do you think of?
Some Creator dude so powerful you can’t even relate to?
Some police officer writing tickets and taking names?
Some stick in the mud deity living by an old set of rules?
Some bigoted autocrat who loves only the good people and the rest of us can go you know where?
What do you think of when you hear the word “God”?
I think it is THE most pressing theological question of our time. Because I think how we answer that question, will in great measure determine who we are, how we view the world, and how we treat people in the world. If God is a bastard, then we will live in a totally different way than if we think God is a loving grandfather.
What does the Bible say about God? The short answer is lots of things!!! I am sorry to say you can justify almost any view of God by reading the Bible.
The text for this coming Sunday – John 3: 1-17 – offers us a view of God that I think is well worth considering. Pay attention to 3 verses…
Verse 3 – “You must be born from above.”
Verse 14 – “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man must be lifted up.”
Verse 16 – “For God so loved the world that God gave the only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Think about those verses.
Come and listen to the sermon on Sunday.
And then tell me what you think about God!!!
