Post by Pastor Dave Mark 16:1-8
It was the first day of the week and where did they go? They went to a cemetery. Where else do you go after a death? Mark tells us they even took spices to anoint the body they expected to find there.
And what did they find?
How could that be?
They’d been to cemeteries before and they always found the body. What else do you find in cemeteries except bodies?
But they found nothing.
Except a young man. Who was he? Nobody knows. Which might just be the strangest part of this strange story. The greatest announcement the world has ever heard was given by a person nobody ever knew!!
And the announcement?
“HE HAS RISEN. HE IS NOT HERE. THERE IS NO BODY.”
And they left and didn’t say a word. Maybe we wouldn’t either. We, like they, have so come to expect death in a cemetery that when we find anything else, we don’t know what to say. What DO you say?
If He wasn’t there, where was He? In Galilee was the strange answer from this strange man. That’s where they, and we are supposed to find Him. And where is Galilee? Where we live? Where we work? Where we go to school? Where we go on vacation? Galilee is anywhere God’s people are – and it is there that we are supposed to find Him!! It is there that we are supposed to find Easter.
We expect death.
We find life.
Perhaps there is no better definition of Easter than that!!!
